Dunlop Ambattur Factory re opens

Dunlop India Ltd Ambattur factory, amongst the leading Industrial Units of Chennai in 1970s and 80s has re opened under new management. Dunlop India was the leading market share holder in tyres in 1980s before MRF, CEAT and others. Taken over by the Dubai based tycoon Manu Chabria (since deceased), the company went into a tailspin due to lack of technological developments, improper management and alleged siphoning of funds by the management. The Ambattur unit shut shop in 2001 and has been lying idle since then. Now, Kolkata based Industrialist P.K. Ruia has bought out the stake of Chabrias and is reopening the factory. Hopefully, this will herald a new beginning for one of Chennai’s prestigious industrial units.
