Light House , Water Tank and a Ladder

While in A C College during 1971-76, we were residing at Linghi Chetty Street. As it was a joint family, there were cousins and uncles and constant visits of friends and relatives. Studying calmly at home was not possible then. Me and Kannan, a friend who was studying in College of Engineering, Guindy found a place to study away from home. That was Madras High Court Campus at Parrys Corner. The place was about 5 minutes walking distance from our house.

I started visiting the campus in the mornings and evenings during the study holidays carrying books on Electrical Engineering, Heat Engines, Stoichiometry, Mass Transfer and Heat Transfer. With Kannan and sometimes without Kannan. There were many places of study in the Campus. The road from the Judges entrance gate, Post Office Bench, Corridors of the Madras High Court and the Old light house structure.

We used to sit on the first level or second level and study in the calm environment enjoying the cool sea breeze.

In August 2005, I visited the High Court Campus on a Sunday morning to take some photographs for flickr. There I observed that in the Old Light House Structure there were crevices in which plants have started growing and birds building nest.

As I was going around taking photographs, at one side of the structure , I found a Sintex Water tank kept at the second level, where we used to sit and study. And a ladder kept nearby.

There is a garden by the side of old light house structure. Possibly the tank is installed to water the plants in the garden.

The structure is 162 years old and deserves a better treatment and maintenance. Is it not ?

(Note : This was the situation as at August 2005. Need to check the present situation. Any other blogger in North Chennai can verify and give a feedback)
