IT Corridor: open at last?
The Hindu of yesterday had an article saying that the IT Corridor was partly open. Well…in a manner of speaking! The stretch through the Central Polytechnic has been completed some what and opened to traffic going towards Madhya Kailash. Traffic going towards Tidel Park continues along the old route, now even narrower than before as they begin work on different stretches. Here are a couple of pictures that show you what its like.
As you can see, its pretty make shift, and far from the IT corridor being comleted and open. Signs all along the road used to tout it as ‘The road of your dreams’! Well, we’ve been dreaming for three years now, and its still taking shape! Post the DMK government coming to power, work has been accelerated enormously, and its great to see [progress every few days. But I doubt that they will be able to adhere to the first week of August opening between Madhya Kailash and SRP Tools.
The reason is that they are still struggling to complete storm water drains, and sewage pipes that have to pass under the road. Once a road of this kind is complete, there is absolutely no question of digging it up for any reason whatsoever. So they have to finish these cement works before completing the road. Lets hop, by extremely good project management, and the co-operation of everyone concerned, they are able to do it. That would really be a feather in the DMK’s cap!
