Is it going to be Indira Gandhi’s statue on Beach Road?

The traffic signal in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue in Beach road was removed a few days ago. I thought may be it was taken down for servicing. The area was then closed as if some construction work is going on. Today I saw they have put up some sort of a pedestal. I also read a rumour somewhere that Indira Gandhi’s statue is going to be put up on the Beach Road. So I guess Indira Gandhi is going to be the fourth woman to have her statue installed on the Beach Road. Again I stess, it is only a guess, not a news.

Update: I checked with the construction workers on site. It is thespian ‘Sivaji’ Ganesan’s statue that is going to be installed.

Now a question.

Who are the other three women to have their statues in this road?

Answer: Kannagi, Auviayar and Annie Beasant (in the park adjacent to Vivekananda Illam)

High time we get away with the statue concept of this dravidar kazhaghams. If you worship statues in temple, you are stupid. But if you garland statues of these people, then it is pagutharivu :)

All the birds of maiana are once again thanking for providing one more toilet for them in the heart of the city with sea breeze – and the birds hope that many more chances would be given for thanking again within the next five years of ruling – with kind regards –

Other three women: one is Annie Besant and one is Kannagi. I can’t think of the third. I’ll guess that it’s either one of the people on the Labour Statue, or it might be Queen Mary near QMC. (Come to think of it, I don’t know for sure whether QMC is Queen Mary College or Quaid-e-Milleth College. I just tell the bus conductor “QMC”. Sigh. I need to read up my Chennai history again).

Ferrari, all that’s ok. Where is your answer?

SLN, you are right. It is going to be Sivaji Ganesan’s.

Anon Goat, you got two out of three right. QMC is Queen Mary’s College. Quaid E Milleth is in Mountroad, opposite to Taj Connemara Hotel.

Suppamani you too got two out of three right.
