Sardar Patel on Sardar Patel Road

Sardar Patel on Sardar Patel Road

I have been observing for long a statue ready and covered in front of Raj Bhavan on Sardar Patel Road. On June 11, I took a diversion to check whether it is still covered and take a photo for flickr / Chennai Metroblogging.

To my surprise, I found the statue that of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Inaugurated by the Governor on June 5, 2006. The pedestal contains certain quotes of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. I did not recall any advertisement / news item about the statue inaugurated on June 5, 2006 by the Governor. Searching www.hindu.com, I found under engagement column of June 05, 2006 the following announcement :

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Trust: Governor S.S. Barnala unveils the statue of Sardar Patel, Raj Bhavan, 5.30 p.m.

While I was searching for more information on Sardar Patel’s statue, I read in The Hindu of January 25, 2006 that a statue of Sardar Patel sculpted by a Police Constable at Kollam was wrapped for about 5 years and was inaugurated on January 25, 2006.
