Tandooriwala, Alwarpet
Tandoori Wala is situated opposite to Abhiramapuram Police Station in Beemanna Garden Street, Abhiramapuram. I ended up there by mistake. And this review is to make sure that you don’t repeat that mistake.
Tandooriwala claims to be a Punjabi Restaurant, but the menu card has Chinese too in it. It is situated in the basement of an apartment block, dingy and poorly lit. As you descend the stairs, a beam is waiting for you with the words, “Mind your head”. If you don’t read it, you will knock your head against it.
As we went in early, we were the first customers of the night. For starters we ordered Paneer Tikka and Black Pepper Chicken. The chicken made its appearance, sufficiently spicy, but just a tad hard. Not bad was the verdict. And then the wait started for the Paneer Tikka. After twenty minutes, with only one another diner in the restaurant, I called the waiter and was told it is getting ready. Five minutes later the manager comes to our table and says, “Sorry Sir, we have run out of Paneer. Please order something else”. They had just opened for the night, we were the first customers, and they had run out of stock. They call it a Punjabi restaurant.
We chose for Butter Naan, Schezwan Fried Rice and Cauliflower Manchurian for main course. The Naan and Cauliflower Manchurain were ok. Schezwan Fried Rice didn’t have chilli, instead they had used Chilli Sauce. After a thouroughly disappointing dinner, we decided to skip the desserts and get out of the place.
The crockery is chipped, they use cold water in finger bowls – well don’t make the mistake I did.
