In the days of Colas, Diet Colas, Tropicanas who would actually stop by to have a glass of Rose Milk. I will. And I am glad I’m not the only one when you come to Kaalathy Kadai (Shop) on East Mada Street opposite the Bharathi Vidya Bhavan in Mylapore. Just ask anyone for the Rose Milk shop and you’ll be there.

Though a regular at Kaalathy Kadai it never occured to me to write a post till I read an article about the shop on the Hindu Downtown recently.

I used to visit Kaalathy Kadai even whilst in school. I had my Math tuitions very near by. And in those days, pocket money was pittens, so the only thing that I could afford was the Rose Milk. No Pizzas, no shakes and creams.

There is something magical about the Rose Milk here. First, the colour of the Rose Milk. It just attracts you and one look at it, you know is rich and fresh. The taste is something which is even better. I normally never stop with one. It is served cold, and the moment you finish one leaves you wanting for more. Plus, it is all of Rs. 5/- So, it doesn’t pinch you at all. He sells the Rose Syrup too. I tried buying it and making the stuff at home, but it never even gets near despite me using the same Aavin milk as he does.
