MK alleges misuse of BPL funds
Chief minister M.Karunanidhi on Monday alleged large-scale misuse of funds allocated for the below poverty line people had taken place during the previous Jayalalithaa government and said that the BPL list would be reviewed.
Responding to a charge made by Congress leader Peter Alphonse in the Assembly, the chief minister said, “A flawed BPL list had been prepared deliberately to divert crores of rupees meant for good purpose to bad channels. Wrong yardsticks have been used.”
The Congress member had met him earlier in the day and showed him documents to “prove” the accusation. “I am informing the people of the state through this statement in this House,” he said.
Mr Alphonse alleged in the Assembly that there were anomalies in the BPL list prepared during the AIADMK rule. Pointing out that the beneficiaries of all the major state and Central schemes meant for the poor were identified using the BPL list, the Mr Alphonse argued that if the list itself was flawed, the funds would not reach the target group.
The AIADMK has denied the charges.
