Time for revamp?

How many times do we read news items like this?

This caught my attention ‘At present, the MTC has a fleet strength of a little over 2700 buses of which about 2,500 are operational, the officials said. The older vehicles plying on the city routes numbered about 1,600.’

Once upon a time, chennai metropolitan transport was hailed as one of the best in country. Looks like our transport department, and other responsible are resting on the old laurels. Why dont we have better buses? We dont need to go very far. Just need to look at bangalore. BMTC buses are getting better day by day.

And lesser said about long distance buses, the better. For how long are we going to hear the same old excuse of, ‘The ticket prices are cheaper. We are running at a loss’. Where does the world bank loan go? Is it a herculean task to have better quality buses?
