Spencer’s & the Sunday Car Parking

It was a Sunday evening, rather yesterday, me and a friend decided to go shopping. And we wanted to combine it with a quick snack. The obvious choice was Spencer’s. Normally I park the car in the basement, but yesterday it was packed, so we were diverted to the elevated parking. We enter the slope and I quickly take my first U turn only to be caught in the middle, as the Tata Indigo in front couldn’t just do the next turn in one shot. This happened again and again at every turn till we reached the top. A guy collected Rs. 20 at the top floor. There was no one to guide the car to a safe parking. The place was jam-packed and I had to wait for more than 20 minutes to find a parking slot. And when I did, this guy (a security guard) comes running out of nowhere and tells me that it is the parking space of a private IT company which has its office in the Plaza.

After great struggle I managed to find place and head down only to find the mall even more packed. It resembled the Aruvathimoovar festival at the Kapaleeshwarar temple in Mylapore. I don’t think there is any point building malls and extending it phase after phase when you don’t get basic infrastructure like parking right. Plus, I have my doubts about safety too. I just wish they spend some money creating a better multi-storeyed car park rather than further expansion.

Compared to other busy shopping centres in Chennai,
I find Spencer’s Car parking to be BIG.

What exactly do you expect? Vacant car parks & a deserted Mall on a SUNDAY ???
