And now, instant one-ways
A while back, I had written about Hyderabad’s bad road management and traffic sense. And claimed Chennai was better. Damn! I spoke 8 months too soon.
When it comes to bad traffic management, arbitrary regulations, short-term planning (and subsequent goof up) and other things usually associated with pathetic traffic, Chennai proves it is not too far away.
The last few weeks, I have noticed, barricades come up and disappear, almost magically. Medians sprout up overnight like mushrooms, gather dust and film posters, disrupt vehicle flow and pretty much cause as much havoc as inanimate objects can. So has Vatsan (not the creating havoc part, the noticing the havoc part). And traffic signals count up to 100 seconds, but turn green on the 35th. It’s just too unpredictable in this part of the world. What’s really infuriating, no body has any damn idea who makes the rules, and who repeals them right the next day.
Which means, its time to follow Nilu’s advice
Even the instant one ways regulated by Trafic Authorities are intollerabnle; where we have to go and complaint about surprise and sudden closing of road in the middle by creating pandals in middle of the road and close the for further trafic by the local Amman Devotees; They never think about the road users and their emergencies;
