Celebrating Chennai – Do you know ? Answers

Sorry for being late with the answers for these questions.

There were not many who bothered to answer, probably leaving the comments open instead of asking the answers to be emailed would have got a better response. Now to the answers

1. One of them was a long serving Vice Chancellor of University of Madras. Other was the Dewan of Mysore. Which famous twins are we talking about?

The famous twins are Dr. A Lakshmanaswamy Mudaliar and Dr. A. Ramaswami Mudaliar, the so called Arcot Twins. They were towering personalities in Madras of 1930s. Read more about them here

2. Ajax was the first product of this Chennai based company. Which company is this?

As I expected, there was atleast one answer saying it was Zoho. The correct answer is Murugappa group (EID Parry, Carborundum Universal, Scroll down to 1939 in that page)

3. Name the locality in Central Chennai that was created by filling in a large lake in the 1960s.

Many people had answered this as Valluvar Kottam, Nungambakkam. But that was in 1976. The area we mentioned is West Mambalam.

4. Who is this Chennai Girl?

Padma Lakshmi, wife of Salman Rushdie.

5. Which is Chennai’s Sister city?

This was an easy one, Denver, Colorado.

We have two winners, Nachinarkiniar Srinivasan (regular quizzer and worked in a doomed software company where I joined after he left) and Ramesh both of them getting 4/5. Congratulations, and we will inform you about the next Metblog authors meet, where you can join us for coffee.

    Answer theriyaadhadhu thaan thalaiva kaaranam.
Padma Lakshmi is one that was clearly answerable for me. But, heck, I couldn’t identify her in this pic.
