Local Body Elections – 2006

The first phase of the local body elections to elect 130,000 representatives all over Tamil Nadu is completed today. There are reports in the web editions of the Newspapers that more than 57 % of the 2.5 crore voters exercised their franchise today.

Elections 2006 - Dilemma of a Voter

(photograph in front of an election booth taken in May 2006)

During the local body elections in 2001, only 32 % of the voters cast their votes. It would be interesting to see what is the percentage voting in Chennai. According to a report, in 2001 elections, voters in some wards of South Chennai, 75 % of the voters did not cast their votes.

For the voters of Chennai who did not exercise their franchise, I am borrowing the message from the campaign did by Ravages(and his team)

“DON’T VOTE,DON’T COMPLAIN”

(Note : I voted at Velachery today. Did not take much time)

were you not even aware of the violence and booth capturing? This post makes it sound like all was peaceful.
    What happened yesterday was shameful.
