Rain!

Rain is what the thunder brings
For the first time I can hear my heart sing
Call me a fool but I know I’m not
I’m gonna stand out here on the mountain top
Till I feel your….rain!

Thus went the song from Madonna’s Erotica album in an altogether different context. She was, of course, singing about her lover, and how his love was like the rain. But the words of her song rang through my head as we drove back from Sparky’s to first a thunderous, heavy sky, swollen with rain. Then through a very light drizzle that frosted the windshield of my car, then to drumming rain!

It was over all too soon, by the time we reached Perungudi. After posting about Sparky’s, I took Sam for a walk (he asked me for one nicely!) and noticed the post rain sky. I rushed to our terrace, my own little mountain top, to see the sky better. To the east were the remnants of the storm clouds, the stragglers, still coming in. While to the West was a clear pastel sky, colored with sunset hues. Rain! At last, in good measure, and without flooding!

PS. I only hope the mosquito larvae were drummed out of existence!

I EXACTLY KNOW WHAT YOUR FEELINGS WERE. AFTER LIVING IN PONDICHERRY AND CHENNAI FOR THIS LONG I CAN UNDERSTAND THE RELIEF THAT COMES WITH THE RAIN. FOR THAT MATTER I DONT EVEN MIND THE OCCASIONAL FLOODS THAT HAPPEN. AFTERALL, NO PAIN , NO GAIN. HOPE THAT THE RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEMS ARE WORKING WELL IN CHENNAI NOW.
