As I set out for the Boat Club early this morning, the bank of clouds moving in from the east provided a spectacular sight! Unfortunately I did not have my trusty camera with me, so all I could do was drink it in without going off the road or causing anyone any harm. Grey clouds they were, one piled upon the other, with gold and silver edges from beyond which the sun’s rays shone upwards in a fan of rays!

The clouds continued to move inwards as I rowed up and down the river, providing intermittent sunshine and shade depending on who prevailed. By the time I finished with the gym and headed homewards, the day had fully dawned, with grey clouds shielding the city from the sun, but for patches here and there where a weak sun filtered through. The drive home was equally spectacular, with yellow rays of sunlight in contrast to the grey clouds over head.

But it wasn’t till ten or so that a steady, light rain started, pitter pattering on the terrace, a little louder, more hollow sound where the drops hit the plants, and conducted a wild dance on the terrace wall before disappearing in a wet sheen. The trees look washed, especially the new leaves of the badam tree outside our window, and all the foliage looks refreshed, rejuvenated after drinking in this heavenly gift.

Chennai is at its best on a day like this! I am so glad I don’t have to go to work today, but can rest and enjoy this cloudy, rainy day with a good book, some magazines and some hot chocolate!

Yes, a real treat, this morning’s shower.

It was nice to get a repeat in the afternoon, as well, though it wasn’t as much fun in Richie Street…
