Sathyam Cinemas – Online Reservation, An Update
This is a follow up to my earlier post on “Sathyam Cinemas – Online Reservation” http://chennai.metblogs.com/archives/2006/09/sathyam_cinemas_online_reserva.phtml
Recently I logged into www.thecinema.in for buying tickets for MOZHI at Screen Santham. Tickets were not available for Saturday and Sunday. Decided to buy tickets for Monday (19032007) which was a holiday for “Ugadi”
Elite tickets were full and decided to go for Premium Tickets which costed Rs 75/- per ticket. There is a service charge of Rs 5/- per ticket. (I got a feeling that the tickets costed less. In the ticket I saw that the movie is Tax Free. I believe the State Government is exempting from payment of Tax if the movie title is in Tamil)
The system asked me whether I wanted to select the seats and there is a charge of Rs 10/- per seat for selecting the seat. I allowed the system to select the seats (Penny wise and Pound foolish – which I realized later) and I was allotted Q 16 to 20. Proceeded to the payment gateway and I paid Rs 400/- for 5 tickets through credit card. The system gave a reference no in very small letters. I noted down the number which was in very small font. Not confident of having noted down the number correctly I also asked my daughter to note down the number. The system has sent a mail to my gmail id and the number in the e mail was totally a different number than what me and my daughter noted (wrongly) from the computer screen.
Armed with a printout of the e mail, on the appointed day, I went to the counter called WINDOW in Sathyam Cinema. I gave the number to the lady sitting in the counter. After feeding the number into the system, she asked the cardholder name. On verifying the name I gave, with the system, she gave me the computer printouts of the tickets. No waiting in the Q and everything happened very fast.
Entering the theatre with Premium tickets, I was looking for the seats in the back rows. The attendant took me to towards the screen and the Q row is 5th row from the screen. Leaving three rows for Elite, the balance rows are all Premium class. I watched the movie from Q row as one would look upto see a skyscraper or a temple gopuram. I would have been wiser by paying Rs 10/- per ticket extra and selected a comfortable seat than allowing the system to allot seats in the Q row.
Watching the movie in Sathyam Cinema was a pleasant experience and nothing to complain about the acoustics or airconditioning.
Having written a post earlier on the online reservation not working, I thought it fit to write this post to inform the readers that the Online Reservation of Sathyam Cinema is working fine now.
Tailpiece
The image above is that of a hoarding in the Sathyam Cinema parking lot. While going through the current issue of Business World, I found that the same image is used for advertising Master Card. Unknowingly both the agencies have used the same image or the same agency is handling the accounts of Club Mahindra as well as Master Card.
A post endorsing Satyam Cinemas, Fanta, Mahindra Club Resorts and MasterCard. :D Oh, and a few movies. ;-)

What the hell is ugadi? I have never heard of this before is this something new introduced to Chennai
making a small trip to the ticket counter, tickets become much easier, and of course the staff at the counter let u choose the row ;) no 15 rupees extra per ticket, and transport wont cost Rs 15 per ticket :D
I actually did the same almost three months back in December and was pleasantly surprised that everything worked fine and well. As I was not going alone, I felt the need and wanted to try out the choosing my own seat option. It worked and no hassle of standing in line or dealing with the crowd.
Just printed out the E-tickets and went to the counter and they just let me right in. Ahh the convenience of technology :-) I dont mind the price because the place is nice and the theatre itself is a thing to behold. I have gone to several multiplexes in bangalore, bad seatings plus a whole lot of money to see a movie.

Anand,
Ugadi, is the Telugu and Kannada New Year.
Do a google search before you term something as hell. It just shows your ignorance.

Vatsan, You have made the sin of ignoring the opportunity cost. Here it is the ‘time’. A loafer might have lots of time, but not others. So online booking+choose seat option will be the right choice for the non-loafers even though it is costly.

Yes, it’s quite new. As new as you’re to planet Earth. Welcome to our humble home, I hope you come in peace.;D Just kidding, but I am surprised and shocked.
Ha very funny comments made by Vatsan and co why is this a public holiday in Chennai for? Oh yes I remember that Chennai is full of Goltis, and candiggers. You give a public holiday to the same people that beat and kick you out of there states and give you no water and yet you still foolishly give them public holidays in your own city ha ha ha. How shameful.
I withdraw my previous comment on vatsan. He sucks
Anand
Hey stop speaking for me whoever you are I made no comment about Vatsan, I only commented on the facts and athe facts are that Tamilians are kicked around like rag dolls by people from all over India even in our own state. Fools I tell you bloody fools.
It costs Rs.10/- to select the tickets everytime… not ten per ticket. even if you had bought 20 tickets apart from the 5 per ticket. It would’ve cost you only 10 bucks.
But I guess the system fills the seats from back to front… maybe tickets weren’t there…
