The Panguni Uthiram Festival is being celebrated now at Mallikeswarar Temple at Linghi Chetty Street in North Chennai.
The presiding deity is Malligeswarar (Siva) and the goddess is Maragadambal (Parvati). Denoting the God and the Goddess, the temple is called Maragadambal Samedha Mallikeswarar Temple. What you see in the photograph is the Utsavar which can be photographed. The main deity inside the temple is not permitted to be photographed.
The devotees carry the Utsavar in their shoulder and perform a dance to the tune of Nadaswaram and Band and bring it to the Simha Vahanam vehicle.
On Sunday (March 25, 2007), as part of the Panguni Festival, after the special Pooja, the God and Goddess were taken out on a procession in Simha Vahanam.
So, now we need not refer”PANCHANGAM” or any calendar to know about KOVIL UTHSAVAM. It is very handy by having such information at a sight by having them at the BLOG. Keep it up.
