As part of the Panguni Festival at Kabaleeswarar Temple, Arubathumoovar was celebrated on March 31, 2007. Mahavir Jayanthi was celebrated on the same day and the State sponsored bandh also took place on the same day. The bandh did not dampen the spirit of the devotees. When many parts of the city was having a deserted look, Mylapore and the roads leading to Mylapore wore a festive look.

The bandh did not come in the way of devotees attending the Arubathumoovar festival. They came in all kinds of vehicles and many camped in their relatives’ houses the previous day itself or walked all the way to attend the festival from different parts of the city. According to a friend who is a long time resident of Mylapore, the people attended the festival this year was the same or even more compared to the previous years.
