Everyone wants a piece of the Chennai pie

Look at the line of contenders.

SIFY (Chennailive.in not yet launched).

MSN has a Thamizh portal but with the news buzzing around of a possible MSN-Yahoo alliance or even an outright purchase of the latter, MSN need not worry about having a city strategy for India.

While Chennaionline.com has been there for a long time and shows up on top for a Google search of just the word “Chennai”, the pure-play group blog(alone)sites are Chennai Metblogs and Chennaiist.com. Other than this are movie sites on Kollywood like Behindwoods.com, Thamizh-only sites (other than web extensions of Thamizh MSM) like Thatstamil.com and a lot of individual bloggers who write on Chennai from time to time (like Yours Truly :-)).

I looked for a city portal on Rediff but did not find it. But, here is a recent photo-feature on the city as I suspect Rediff thinks it does not want to leave out such a lucrative market as Chennai, being a Mumbai-based Internet company and having a history of clubbing “South”-based news or movie happenings in one single bunch. What is interesting is not the photo-feature itself but the passion that Chennai as a city evokes on both sides – people who appreciate it and people who love the opportunity to take pot-shots at it. There is a cure for ignorance, but as a section of responses to that photo-feature show, there is no cure for arrogance. Read on.

Was the aquarium washed by the Tsunami?? And are the sands of the Marina really white?

That report, in the words of one of the commenters at Chennai Metblogs, reads like the work of a third grade/class/standard child for composition class.
