Bands Association of Chennai

A few months ago, some very enterprising young musicians from Chennai (mostly students) decided to do something about the exposure they weren’t getting. Individually no one could afford to stage a concert. So the blokes got together and formed the Bands Association of Chennai. And have staged not one, but two shows featuring bands from the city. Their meeting ground is an orkut community, or a coffee shop at Bessie Beach.

Having followed the threads on their orkut community for some time, I’m privy to a few more details. Their beginnings were modest. Each band contributed some money, and the collection was used to stage their first show. For the second gig in April, I think they’d managed to rope in some sponsors. And who knows, this might be the start of another Woodstock. The cynics may say I’m being too optimistic. I don’t care. I like to think of what is possible, rather than what is not. And if you remember, nobody gave the Mahatma much of a chance.

Can you provide us with more details? I would imagine that the Unwind Centre is one location where they meet.

Well actually they dont really meet at unwind. Unwind has always been a platform to play and they are appreciative of that, but felt a change was needed and that concerts needed to happen on a bigger scale with better sound, lighting and VENTILATION!,bands should have the freedom to express themselves completely through the music and yet it should be a clean and healthy environment that even a family would like to go to.Hence the BAC.

well yeah this “BAC” was started so that we dont play in the same venue “UNWIND CENTER” again and again….. the first show was in Gatsby Village it was self sponsored… every band contributed a certain sum … the second show was slightly bigger as we roped in sponsors and the venue was Bucks Theater YMCA Nandhanam… there will be shows happening every two months so people better come :)…. i think THE BAC will be a welcome change to the music scene in chennai and soon will create a wave like the WOODSTOCK (lol)…. rock on….. ROCK IS BAC

The Band Association Of Chennai (BAC) is the coming together of like minded musicians of city bands and music enthusiasts who work together to promote their music. We seek to provide a healthy and clean atmosphere where the artistes can showcase, meet, perform, interact and share their experience and skill with each other.
