Cornucopia
One of my favourite haunts after arriving in Chennai has been a little restaurant on Cenotaph Road. Cornucopia. Great food. Exemplary service. If you haven’t been there already, you are missing something.
It doesn’t look very fancy from the outside. An old bungalow with a large yard. The interiors aren’t 5 star either, just simple, neat and very clean. But Cornucopia more than makes up for the missing decorations with genuine warmth, friendliness and delicious food.
Now don’t jump to the conclusion that a meal at Cornucopia will eat up your wallet. The prices are a fantastic bargain for what a customer receives in return. And guess what, there’s ample parking space too. So drive right in.
Manoj, Glad that you liked the place. All the time while I was in Chennai, this used to be my favorite. I definitely miss it now…sigh sob sob…
I’ve been there trice and loved it.
There was a thread in Orkut community “Chennai Food Guide” some time ago, about best Italian joints in Chennai. Most people there chose Bella Ciao, but I’m sure they wouldn’t have chosen it if they had been to Cornucopia.
There’s this one waiter there who really knows his stuff – quite a pleasure to talk about the menu when he’s there. I don’t know his name but you have a better chance of finding him there (from experience) if you do a lunch rather than a dinner there.
Vivek,
That community’s still there :) and Cornucopia is everyone’s favorite there.
Bella Ciao is good but very expensive.
Ashwin, that guy who knows “what is good for you” is gone. He’s with this Italian join on Khader Nawaz Khan road, the one besides Mocha. I think this happened sometime in Jul / Aug last year
Rastafari,
Thanks for correcting me. I went back to the thread after looking at your comment. The thread is far bigger than when I posted there. And, to my surprise, the popular vote has shifted towards Cornucopia. :)
