Madras Week picks up steam!
As we get closer to August 22nd, the day the city was founded, the activities planned around it for the week beginning Sunday 19th are certainly picking up steam. There are many different walks to begin with: Tree Walks at the Museum Grounds and the Guindy National Park; Heritage Walks around Poonamallee High Road, Georgetown and Fort St George; a Neighborhood Walk in Mylapore and a Pre-historic Region Tour as well. Then there are a series of Heritage Talks across the whole week with knowledgeable resource persons speaking on a variety of subjects: Gowri Ramnarayan on the Music of Madras; Geetha Doctor on eating out in Madras; Dr Joachim Bautze of the Goethe Institute on the shelling of Madras by the German warship’ The Emden’ as well as on Wiele & Klein-early photographers in Madras; Randor Guy on two famous murders in Madras; V Sriram on the dancing girls of Madras and Mohan Ram on Madras as a back drop in Tamil Films. There are also a whole series of readings and talks as well, with speakers such as well known Madras historian S Muthiah, Dr Suresh, archeologist, G Sundar, Director of the Roja Muthiah Research Library and so on. There are also walks and events for children, campus events at colleges, a photography contest, a short film or documentary contest and a T shirt designing contest. Check it out.

Talking about the famous Madras historian S Muthiah, I am very much interested to know about his contact details.
Couple of years back, before moving to Bangalore, it so happened that I chanced upon one of his books on Madras and since then my curiosity has become more vigorous to lay my hands on all his writings regarding Madras.
If anyone knows the relevant details, please share with me.
