Helmet rule – Arrogant chennai traffic police

helmet_rule.jpg
Things just change all of a sudden
“Now law & order are more important for the state government ”
The above statement is acceptable, when the chennai traffic police makes announcement of the so called helmet rule well in advance, just like what they did when they were introduced, in contrary, they are collecting fines and getting the media attention.

1) Well the elections are over,
2) implementing helmet rule
3) start to fine the defaulters.

I guess cops are just puppets. “ipppo, Kuti karanam podu” they have to dance to the all the tunes. (politicians as well as the public)

    Are you saying anything here?

Thanks, Thad E Ginathom, I have changed the contents of the post.

    to answer your question?
Why can’t the chennai traffic police do a campaign again of helmet rule. After which they can fine the defaulters

If you remember, some one on the Television and the papers said that people would not get fined, the message was so subtle that even if you don’t wear a helmet, you will not be bothered.

Instead of spot fining they can give an option to buy an ISI Certified helmet on the spot itself from the Police Depatment ( not from the cop or any agent who is standing nearby with helmets) and if not to pay the fine on the spot. Most of the two wheeler drivers are not buying the helmet due to their lethargic attitude to go the shop and procure the same. I hope this would definitely improve the situation, and give the Govt, a chance to explain their efforts in the HIgh Court for the explations called for, keeping idle after enacting a law and not enforcing the same.

I’m very happy with this initiative. Let the two-wheeler riders learn some sense. Those that ride without helmets deserve to be fined. Though I do agree that a pro-helmet campaign would be good, adding to what is being done now.

It was very irresponsible on the CM’s part to undermine the implementation of the helmet rule by asking the police ‘not to harass the people’ within 48 hours of the rule coming into effect. And now this?? Wonder what led to the sudden change of heart..

On another note, there is one other ‘rule’ that hasn’t been enforced by the traffic police at all – the use of meters, electronic or otherwise, with revised fares in autos. Any updates on that? Will it ever be implemented?

Wonder How much of the fined money actually reaches the treasury. Any bets!

The notice, the warnings, the buying of helmets all happened.

    Then the politicians stepped in.

The the courts stepped in again — but that notice period was still there; many, many people bought them. It is crazy, the way it has happened, but it is not so wrong of the courts to say that that the law must be implemented.

The cops are caught in the middle of all this.

Apart from collecting fine – They speak very badly for asking reasons – they keep saying they will Seize – for not wearing helmet how can they Seize my bike if all documents are there… Arrogant approach….

You didn’t know about the law?

But you drove without the helmet?

    Arrogant approach.

    ;)

If you’re not complying with the helmet law, then they’re perfectly correct in seizing your vehicle. Might hurt, but that’s the law.

Yesterday 29th August when I went to office, it was raining and I went with my rain coat on and did not take the helemet as it will get spoiled in the rain.
I use helemt daily and just on the days it rains I do not take it.

While going to office it was fine as it was raining, and while returning from office I got caught by one mother fucker bastared. he asked me why I dont have a helmet and asked his junior to collect rs. 100 from me and said that I will be sent to court and he will cease my vehicle if I dont pay the fine.

Inspite of having all the papers, license, I managed to escape from there by paying rs.50 bribe to the fucking ass hole. The junior coinstable was telling sir you are spotted by himask him and he can help you.

End of the month I had total Rs. 100 with me and I thought I will manage with this till I get my salary but rs. 50 was gone to these fucking bastards. I did not want more trouble and preferred to leave the place.

Whom can you complain about all this about the torture they do on the roads adn the way they speak. This country is fucked up. No one can save India everybody is busy sucking out wahtever they can.

My hard earned money is gone and I am left with Rs.50 which I have to manage for another 2 days. I hope the fellow dies on a road accident. God please help people like us.

    Regards,
    Chinmaya.
