Is Chennai weather changing?

Chennai%20rains.bmp
All of us have noticed that it’s raining a lot more nowadays, much more than normal for August. While the rain is welcome, why is this happening? Well, the fact that the weather seems to be changing is pretty evident. Question is, is this a valid observation by citizens? This article in The Hindu dated 28th June makes it clear that Chennai is getting hotter in the hot season. However, the met dept felt it would be premature to label this as ‘climate change’. A subsequent article, citing over 30 years of weather analysis by the met department, stated that Chennai is likely to experience more rain as well. This is good news for the water starved city, but also means that better storage and catchment area augmentation must be planned to conserve the water rather than let it run into the sea.

Yes, this is Chennai! This was taken from a bungalow overlooking Valmiki Nagar Beach. Just shows how nice the city can be if its cared for a little.

    Nice photograph…

btw, I really wish that the govt take some steps to make the best of this rain… and at the same time keep the water off the roads.

First thing.. As everyone said, it’s a very nice shot. While it’s heartening to hear that it’s raining more often in Chennai, does the temperature also drop in summer because of this on the rainy days? Also, last time I was in Chennai in December, I felt that there was no wind or air movement for several days during my trip, unlike how it was when I grew up there? I remember very well that even in summers, we had a very nice breeze to make it a bit pleasant. Would like to know if that was just an anomaly or it’s like that more often these days?

The climate now presents a confused picture….saturday it was somewhat a cool, breezy day..but yesterday(sunday) it was like mid-may…i just went out for 2 hrs and felt the sun to be too hot in this month.
