Kanini- Taking Computers to the masses

Kanini is an initiative by the Chennai chapter of Bharat Uday Mission (www.BhumiChennai.co.nr) to take computers to children who do not have access to them

Goal: The program’s goal is to reach out to young children who do not have access to computers, ignite their minds to the endless possibilities of computers, make the children functionally e-literate and help them become productive citizens of the future.

The program is being implemented at:

· Anbu Karangal Orphanage, Thiruvanmiyur
· SOS Village, Tambaram
· Jeroham Orphanage, Madipakkam

The results have been encouraging, and the initiative is likely to be expanded to a few more orphanages soon, depending on our resources.

Kanini Course Structure:

The program aims at teaching the basics of computer science. It comprises of:

1.Theory: Includes the history of computers and its development into modern day systems, basics of operating system and troubleshooting.

2. Practical: Since most of the children would have never used a computer, there are more practical sessions than theory and the program concentrates on giving a hands-on experience. Sessions would consist of MS office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Paint, etc.), using the Internet – e-mail, searching for information, and the like.

3. Module Test and Feedback: After every module, a test is conducted to help us analyse the children’s understanding of the subject and also get their feed back to re-structure our program for the future.

Duration of the program:

The program, which targets children of classes 7-12, will be spread over 16 days, 2-3 hours per day during the weekends.

How you can help:

· If you have an old computer or even parts of it (even a P3 would do!), you can donate it to one of the orphanages.
· You can join our members in the teaching program.
· Language is not a problem, You can instruct in Tamil/English or both.
· You can start the program at an orphanage or a school for the underprivileged near you.

Dude,, did you just copy-paste it?

You can also help us by forwarding this e-mail to your friends.
Is this what you’re using the Metblogs for?

The cause is indeed noble but if every author were to start ‘posting’ organizations in need of resources (monetary or otherwise), there will be no end to the list.

Kokki_jacobus: I’m sorry i forgot to remove that. I did edit it now and corrected it. On copy/pasting… Yes, i did copy and paste this here. I own the right to copy and paste since i work for this organization. This is a campaign emailer we used for procuring volunteers for teaching staff for the project. It worked well and i don’t see why this could not be copy/pasted here. Its very much relevant to chennai and its for a noble and good cause which im sure you would appreciate.

I agree with you that if people start posting ads the list would be endless but please advice me this. If we cannot represent this here and ask for help where else do we go ask for help? I’m baffled. Maybe im wrong and maybe this is not a place for copy and pasting but if we cant ask for help for a charitable chennai project on a chennai blog where else do we go ask?

I was also tired of Dilip’s so called “Chennai Blogs”
I was thinking “who the hell this guy is….?”
then Checked out in the About the Authors…
    It goes like this….
“….I’m the Scorpio, i flaunt the “Never Quit” attitude of the Scorpion. I’m Strange, I’m weird, I’m Eccentric. That’s me in short. Explore the Mystery, get to know the ME…. ”

I think this explains it all.

    Dear Dilip,
We dont(atleast most of us) come to chennai Metblog to know about the Authors.. but about our beloved Chennai.

My Sincere question to the moderator (if there is one):
One what merit was Dilip allowed to Blog(!!) here?

The language used by CATKILLER is very unpleasant. Dilip has posted this in the interest of chennai. I don’t know why still people are up against him.
