Team Chennai : Captain – Stuart Law; Coach – Michael Bevan

Yes. I am talking about the Indian Cricket League. The Chennai team is named as Chennai Super Stars with Stuart Law as captain and Michael Bevan as coach. The other foreign players in the team are Ian Harvey of Australia, Chris Read of England, Shabbir Ahmed of Pakistan and Russell Arnold of Srilanka.

How this breakaway league pans out is anybody’s guess. The first match for Chennai Super Stars is against the Kolkata Tigers on December 1 at 12.30 PM. The match is being held at Panchkula, Chandigarh. The match is being shown live only in Zee TV. This might provide a dampener in Chennai as not many people follow Zee TV. May be the organisers could have tied up with one of the local channels (Sun / Raj / Jaya / Vijay) to popularise the format. As it is the organisers seem not to expect much support from Chennai; all the Chennai team fixtures are at 12.30 PM with none of their matches scheduled for prime time (06.00 PM).

Will Chennai passionately support its Team? May be, may be not. But what Chennai Super Stars didn’t need is the sobriquet of “probably the only mens sports team in the world to have a Pink uniform”.

Vikram – nothing wrong with pink. That was just my observation :-)

Planemad – that is unfair. Guys like Hemang Badani, T. Kumaran, Sriram, Devendran, Jesuraj are as Chennaivasis / Tamil as you get. Check Devendran’s player profile –

Watch out now! Don’t talk anything bad about Simran. Infact, people love her so much they are planning on a movie with Simran’s son as hero ;)

    MAIDENFAN-
That’s funny. The best part is when he asks the crowd where they want it and the crowd goes offside, he then hooks it on the leg for a six. Priceless. BTW Rajni always sells, be it cricket and 10paise matchbox…. Go Superstar Go….

Murali: The second time, at least, they yell “OUTSIDE”. So the ball goes outside the ground for a six.
