Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings IPL Team – at a cost of USD 1.5 Million
It is official. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is now part of Chennai Super Kings team at a cost of 1.5 million USD. Mutthiah Muralidharan too is now part of the team, having been bought at USD 700,000. Murali of course would feel at home in Chennai, having married a Chennai girl.
well there goes the myth that chennai doesnt have any exuberance!!! Dhoni for 6 Crore!! Is he worth that kinda money?
wonder wherea and for how much yuvi goes !
Hey dont go by the price paid for Dhoni. Chennai were lucky that they didnt have an icon player. For e.g. take bombay they paid $975000 for Jayasuriya. They will have to pay Tendulkar atleast $1.12 million, whereas Chennai doesnt have such liability. I think thats why they went hard while bidding for Dhoni, very smart move :)

BTW, Dhoni was the most expensive player bought for Indian Premier League which will feature only 20:20 matches. There’s something to it: that an Indian player should be sold for the most in Chennai. Quite a momentous occasion.
Is that for 1 yr or is this a multi year deal? Dhoni is way overrated imo!
This is sheer stupidity. the whole ipl or cricket is ruining the entire other sports in india!! Lets go for other sports too rather than cricket.
Why is it stupidity? Its promoting domestic cricket. Cricket is not just a game in india. its more than that.
If one thought that ‘importing foreign pilots’ with massive salaries was just a blot in the education-for-all canvass, just see the fat fortunes that Indias rich are handing out to foreign players!
Will the corrupt Congress government get over its hard-core-feminism hangover and do something about this draining of resources?
And I am against the use of names of cities, under whatever pretext, by commercial organisations with a profit motive. What harm will be caused in renaming the teams as ‘SRKs Kolkotta team’ or ‘Anil Ambanis mumbai team’? After all, what if I wanted to start my very own Chennai team tommorrow? Why would you want to selectively ban capitalism? Is that what is expected in a ‘free economy’?

Well guys… I agree that Dhoni is capable of all the thing that he has achieved so far… But still I don’t think he is worth so much with bigger names like Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Sanath Jayasuriya, Andrew Symonds, Brett Lee, Muttiah Muralidaran, Herschelle Gibbs and Chris Gayle in the hunt…The reason for this being only the commercial market which is bound to flood the team with the poster boy playing for it…
The team formation and star value in IPL will not help youngsters who is not in team, and who is playing for ranji.
It should give life to players who is not Indian team.
It should be the mixer of star players and youngsters, like what ICL did.
