I had a chance to go to Triplicane on some work and took about an hour off to soak into the life around the Parthasarathy Temple. Here are a few snapshots.

I was sitting in my car playing chauffeur while my wife had gone to the Vadapalani market to do some pooja shopping. Since there is no parking place on the main road, I parked the car on the Vadapalani temple road.

I saw a small shop called Mitai Mandir. At first, I thought its a pureplay sweets shop. Then, I saw a small board which said ‘authentic Gujarathi thali’. I have always liked Gujju food and sauntered in to check it out. Now that I was there, I figured might as well try out their thali.

Excellent food. Their phulkas were super soft, sabji real tasty and dhoklas so fluffy that they melted in the mouth. The thali was reasonably priced at Rs.45.

This is a hidden gem. Try it if you happen to travel to this part of town.

Zoho Puts Chennai on the Web 2.0 Map

Business 2.0, the influential business magazine has an article that identifies 23 of the most influential & innovative Web 2.0 sites developed in countries other than the USA. And Zoho is among this elite group!

The article has the following to say about about Zoho (Writer),

“Like Writely.com, a service recently purchased by Google, Zoho is going head-to-head with Microsoft Word by building word processing into your browser. Zoho Writer lets you export and import Word documents from your PC or create new ones online and share them with anyone. Zoho also offers Zoho Sheet, an online spreadsheet and Zoho Planner, a to-do list that can be shared by groups.”

India’s First RFID Manufacturing Facility in Chennai

Gemini Traze RFID Pvt. Ltd., will be setting up India’ s first RFID tag manufacturing facility at the Seriperumbudur electronic park in Chennai, with an investment of $2.5 million.

The plant is expected to be operational in October 2006. Currently, there are a lot of overheads with duty and import, which is 40 percent additional cost on duties levied. Indigenous manufacturing would rid it of the additional cost, sAys Venkat, business head, Gemini Traze RFID.

4-yr-old takes to drivers seat

“Studying in lower Kinder Garden in southern Chennai, the child has taken a fascination for driving at the age of three and half years, claims his father.

With four hours of training everyday, Keethresh can today drive at a speed of 70 kilometres per hour (43.5 miles per hour) and can continuously drive for 32 kilometres (approximately 20), adds his father. ”

QFI Open Quiz Tomorrow at Mylapore

Vinod and Krishnamurthi, two ardent quizzers are conducting the annual Quiz Federation of India Open Quiz tomorrow. Last year, over 150 teams participated. This year, its expected to be bigger.

It is an open quiz with no conditions whatsoever for participation. All are welcome to participate. Teams of three or less. There will be no registration fee or any kind of registration process. Just come and participate.

I like what Ganesh says, “Apart from being original, well researched and immensely entertaining, the QFI Open 2006 also aims at making quizzing a fun experience for everyone involved. It will try and bring to a wider audience the same mix of light-hearted fun and serious high-standard quizzing.”

Our own David Appasamy, proud member of the Chennai Metblogs Team, heads corporate communications at Sify. Being in an ISP gives him a better perspective of what is happening on the other side of the fence. David is also a blogger. Chennai-Pondy electric train to be flagged off on July 12

Now, this is good news for Pondicherrians like me. The first electric train service between Pondicherry and Chennai is to be flagged off on July 12 by Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu.

The track on the route was electrified at a cost of Rs nine crore. The expense was shared equally by the Railways and Pondicherry administration. (via ChennaiOnline.com)
