Some of you may know Chandrachoodan Gopalakrishnan. He used to write here at Chennai Metblogs. For the select group of metbloggers, he was captain of the team. For photography enthusiasts over at flickr, he is known as Ravages.
Now Chandrachoodan is encouraging us to join him on a photowalk through some of the city’s most scenic locations. The walk begins from the famous Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore. It starts at 9 am on Sunday (tomorrow). If you are keen on photographing the city with Chandrachoodan along your side, please be there.
Further details are here.

Tic Tac is on Third Cross Road, Raja Annamalai Puram. I think it’s one of the biggest DVD/VCD rentals in the city. For those with the odd LP players, it also stocks those big laser disks. The Hollywood movies section is the biggest and includes movies dating back to the 1940s. Romantic comedies, thrillers, cartoons, the collection includes films of many genres. For example, the entire Bond collection is available on DVD.

I dont know how many of you know these places but if you drive by ECR and after Mayaajaal there is an entire line of small roads that lead to the beach.

Most of these small roads end with big bungalows and houses that are owned by rich people, cine stars and politicians and i guess they hardly come out of their houses since the doors are locked all of the time and there is not a soul around to see in these places.

Hunger led us to the nearest potti kadai, of the kind, I’d seen only in my childhood – of almost endless depth but extremely limited width. Butter biscuits, stale murukku, and camarkat toyed with our imagination before we saw it swing gaily in front of us. `Gud Look Superstar’ captured our attention, as Rajnikanth’s face grinned alarmingly out at us. Rice puffs for Rs. 1. With `Superstar’ branding. Welcome to Kovalam.

A website seems to be picking up attention, which has a mashup tool of Google maps so called Wikimapia, and a wide variety of other choices to search for.

The best part is the events, members seemed to contribute in this section and the navigation is greatly categorized as “All Events”, “what’s going on”, “what’s coming up”, “what’s over”.
Local search is one more important feature, I guess the site has tied up with other search engines/ portals to give you the best results for your city. So next time you want to know the where abouts of a restaurant, this site is a cool place to hang around.
word of mouth one more interesting section where users recommend a service or product – bad and good times.
Ok enough of me telling stories, check out the website http://www.ilaaka.com

I was searching for some examples of art-deco styles in Madras, and it lead me to this page:
Roman Virdi’s collection of photos of Chennai. Some fantastic images, there, as well as a very glowing endorsement of the Residency Hotel (the old one -on GN Chetty road). Check it out. Meanwhile, here are the pictures.

“hey! Lookee there! Some guy in a white vest and black jeans! Copycat!”
