The Second edition of Mobile Monday Chennai

The MoMo Chennai edition is on the next weekend at Gandhi Nagar Club, Adyar, Chennai (This might change. )
For those not in the know, here’s the fount of all wisdom, the Wiki, on Mobile Mondays

Mobile Monday (MoMo) is a networking organisation for mobile industry professionals fostering cooperation and cross-border business development through virtual and live networking events to share ideas, best practices and trends from global markets. Founded in autumn 2000 by Mobile Monday Oy in Helsinki, Finland, Mobile Monday now has 47 chapters worldwide, which host meetings on a selected Monday evening each month.

Shorn of all that jargon, it’s a place to catch up with the latest technology in the world of mobile telecommunication.
The Chennai version this month will cover mobile web and application development. If you are interested, go forth and register. Only 75 seats, and 50 are already taken. So you might want to rush!

Saarang 2008

Saarang, the annual cultural festival of IIT Madras, without any doubt is one of the many things that defines Chennai and the 2008 edition of this fest begins tomorrow, bigger and better than before as the students of IIT M always promise.

Apart from the usual events (Lits, DumbC, dance, music, dramatics, debate etc.) this time they have introduced four new events including Solo dance and Short Film Making. Short film making was actually introduced last year, but it didn’t take off as expected and hence it has been re-introduced this year.

Here’s what you can do this Sat evening

The Ultimate Sport finals tomorrow

The Ultimate tournament which started a week back, ends tomorrow with the two most important games: to decide the winners and the two runner-up teams.

Last weekend saw some real high speed action packed games. I almost ran out of nails to bite by the end of the semi-finals. It was heartening to find so many interested folks getting up at 5:30 in the morning and driving down all the way to the beach to cheer us.

Here is a nice picture of Mahen (team red) in action, snapped by Manoharan.

After the tournament gets over on Saturday (Tomorrow), the CUF (Chennai Ultimate Frisbee club) will swtich to its second season. So if you are interested in the sport and would like to learn/play it, this is the best time to join, for, the next tournament will be held at least 3 months later and you will get adequate practice playing at least 25 regular games by then.

So all you have to do is to join the club is land up every Saturday and Sunday at Bessie (Elliots) Beach (near the gym/police booth) at 5:30 AM, starting this Sunday and play the game. We are also implementing 2 level tiers, so that it will help the new comers to settle down and play their game with people of their skill set for the first few games.

And ho! Did I forget to mention the match schedule for tomorrow:

6:00 am – 7:00 am: Finals, Team Blue Vs. Team Yellow (My team)
7:00 am – 8:00 am: 3rd place decider, Team Green Vs. Team Red

So see you folks there. :D

I, Today at 3:11 PM IST

If you are wondering what 311 is all about check out this site.

The basic idea is to capture the life of every chennai’te and freeze it in time and see and see through their eyes what they are seeing and living.

As per the site it goes like this..

On the 3rd of November 2007, we invite every Chennaiite to for one second, at exactly 03:11 PM, stop whatever it is that they are doing, and click, shoot, snap, capture or photograph that moment, just hold that one instant frozen in a picture and send it to us. This is not for any great worthy cause, this is not a competition, it may or may not help charity, it will not prevent global warming, you will gain no medals, no certificates but it is most definitely not a waste.

My contribution to this had big plans but went out to be a party pooper in the last minute due to work and hit the sack late and work up just in time for 3 PM.

I decided to make use of what i had in hand since i could not go out and shoot th real “ON THE ROAD” chennai that i wanted to.

Here is what i got….

Once upon a time…

03:11 PM, Capturing a moment of Chennai

Chennai. Born 1639.

Ever wondered how many things have happened/changed in these 368 years of Chennai’s existence? If I were to give these changes a digit, then it would just about take me the closest value to infinity.

With a flick of a finger, Chennai has become a million things old. What if we could take one second out of this city’s life and capture, store and time capsule it? We can’t document everything that happened in that one second in Chennai, but we sure can have a good collection of events/scenes/stories that took place in that one second.

Calling all you people to take part in this ambitious project “03:11 PM”.

Grab a camera, sync. your watch and take a snap of whatever you see at 3:11 PM on 3rd November, 2007. It doesn’t matter what camera you use, it doesn’t matter if the scene is not aesthetic, all that matters is you take that ONE shot telling everyone else, that is what was happening in that part of Chennai at that particular instance.

Do also realize that more the number of people taking part in this project, the more successful it will become. Feel free to blog about it, spread the word to your friends and please refrain from spamming orkut (if possible).
