I’d like to thank every single person who so kindly suggested spots to find waffles for breakfast after reading my post on my failed quest! (Yes, Nandhu, I know that was aeons ago!) Well, you’ll all be pleased to note that I found my waffles after a friend (tried of my endless wheedling, no doubt) took me to the Park Sheraton breakfast buffet.

The call for The Chennai Photowalk by Chandrachoodan Gopalakrishnan materialised on Sunday (11/11/2007) with Anand,Geeta Padmanabhan,Srivatsan Murali , Sharanya, Navneeth,Mihir and me assembling near Kapaleeswarar Temple around 9. Two others joined us at Parry’s Corner later.
Sometime back I had written about this small Chennai Ultimate Frisbee (CUF) club and how a bunch of us love playing this basket-ball cross of rugby game. Since then CUF has grown big time and what more? The CUF tournament is on the cards.

The tournament will be held this weekend and the finals will take place next weekend. There are four teams taking part in this event and with 4 games scheduled each day, this tournament promises to deliver some high speed action (not to mention the test of stamina). The matches are scheduled at 6:00 am to 8:00 am this Saturday at Bessie beach, near the Memorial.
Be there to cheer us, to click some beautiful snaps or just plainly boo away the opposite teams (Look, without Vatsan in my team I am plainly counting on your support).
The day before diwali happened to be my birthday and i was seeing a couple of friends at mocha. I knew these folks had a disco setup there during festival days!

Just a short post for all you party mongering folks. If you got the time you may wanna check out this place around Christmas and new year. I’m sure it would be one hell of a bang.
While the rest of India celebrated the Festival of Lights ” Deepavali” or “Diwali” today (09/11/2007), Chennai celebrated Deepavali one day in advance yesterday (08/11/2007).
The monsoon always brings back a flood of memories of monsoons past. And so it was this time as well, bringing to mind the things one loved about this season in Chennai:
• Going to sleep with the sound of the wind and rain soothing you
• Feeling the spray of heavy rain in your face as you stand in the doorway and watch it come down
• Curling up in bed with a good book and a glass of hot chocolate on Sunday afternoons
• Hot tea and samosas at tea time on a rainy day
• Watching the rain dance on top of the parapet wall before disappearing in spray
• Cycling in the rain
• Rain holidays
• Playing a game of ‘holly golly’ in the rain
• Roiling cloudscapes

I don’t know if you’ve been following the developments, but the police finally seem pretty determined to rein in the auto rickshaws from over charging. First the stated intent to ensure that they don’t charge more than the fares agreed upon by the auto rickshaws union. Then the warnings. And finally the crack down. Including impounding of hundreds of errant rickshaws, and even revoking of their licenses. What has been the response? A strike by the auto rickshaw drivers on Monday to protest the police action. I know there have been debates on whether the fares agreed to were correct. Whether the auto rickshaw owners are giving the drivers a raw deal and therefore the mercenary behaviour etc. The fact is that taking an auto in Chennai can be a terrible experience, leaving one feeling cheated and helpless. In fact, the city’s auto rickshaws are famous all over the country for the extortionist charges, and contribute a great deal to giving Chennai a bad name. I hope that this time the police, and I may add, the public, will stand firm so that we bring this unsavoury practice to an end. Once and for all.
