Horse & the Rider

Horse Rider Statue,Anna Flyover,Chennai

This statue was installed some time in 70’s in remembrance of abolition of Horse Racing in Chennai. There were reports that statue of the man is made with the features of Vandhiya Thevan of Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan. Two identical statues are installed on both sides of Anna Flyover. This is one facing Uthmar Gandhi Salai (i.e.Nungambakkam High Road)

It’s another matter Horse Racing has come back to stay in Chennai

I seem to have lost my sense of places in Madras. Is this the old Gemini Circle? They used ot have a big circle there. Nungambakkam Road, Left was Mount Road, under the flyover then US Consulate on the other side of the flyover with Woodlands(?) on the right side crossing the flyover? There used to be a horticultural builing or such along the USIS Road on the same side. Interesting to see the statues up close :)

    great work

Thanks all for visiting and comments. PSU, your description of Gemini Circle is vivid. All the premises you described including Woodlands are in tact
