Who’s Gonna be Chennai’s Amanda Congdon?

I was speaking to a pretty looking girl working in the TV industry when it stuck me that there’s an empty space in the Indian Blogosphere up for grabs.

Amanda Congdon has become a sort of Net celebrity thanks to her video blog, Rocketboom. (Too bad she left the site today but she’s getting offers from Hollywood and a lotsa other big places)

And I’m thinking, Chennai has always been a leader in blogging and wondering if it would be a pretty looking Chennai girl who’d take the plunge into video blogging and become a Net celebrity.

I wonder!

surprised to see a ‘Jollu’ post from a married, respectable blogger.

Yea, seems he’s sad he cant jollu @ Amanda anymore. So he wants “pretty looking Chennai girl” to do video blog.

Wonder why his private Jollu should be featured in metblog.

Here you go, Chennai Male chuvanism in action.
Even Chief spokesperson for Chennai Bloggers is
not an exception. Why not an ugly half naked (or baked)Chennai male? for that matter ugly women ?

I know, I am ignorant, I don’t know much about
the ‘X’ factor (where X = pretty girl).

Does the bloggers react to ‘phases of the moon’
    I wonder..

Whoa! You guys surely woke me up in the morning! :)

Let’s see.. jollu, male chauvinistic.. hmmm…

It’s neither but I’m not defending (oh heck, maybe I am).

    Nevertheless, I respect your views.

The focus here is about an opportunity where someone reportedly made $40,000 (That’s Rs.20 lakhs) per month in advertising revenues. Even if that’s an exaggeration, they surely made decent money. And a staggering 300,000 download of videos EVERY DAY.

Not bad for a 3 minute video that costs just $20 to make.

So, what’s the corelation? The corelation is that there could be an opportunity for an India centric niche segment. It could be Kollywood gossip, Technology news (Chennai centric)..oh I could go on.

Chennai is pretty big on TV. There are so many anchors (I hasten to add, both guys and girls).. it just takes one entreprising individual to realise this opprortunity.

Would it happen in Chennai? I don’t know for sure but the opportunity has been demonstrated by many folks overseas.

People, the focus is on the opportunity. And that’s the intent it was written in.

I reread the post and it did sound slanted. So you have good reason to think on the Jollu and the chauvinstic angle. Fair enough.

Agree with Nandu there. This post has nothing to do with Chennai, and Kiruba’s explanations sound contrived. Had this post been on another blog from another blogger it wouldn’t have been worth a second glance.

    I recommend Trisha for chennai.metvlogs.com.
