Velachery to get Storm Water Drain
Every year during the annual rains, Velachery is flooded, maybe, largely because most of area is build on reclaimed land from the lake. The area acts as a sink, where water from the surrounding areas drains into it. To solve this problem, the MLA S R Raja and MP T R Baalu, under the guidance of the Local Administration Minister Stalin, a storm water drain would be built at a cost of Rs 3 Crore. The Hindu reports
Responding to a request made by Union Minister and South Chennai MP T.R. Baalu and Tambaram MLA S.R. Raja at a function organised by Chennai Corporation, Mr. Stalin said the civic agency prepared estimates for the storm water drain network that would prevent inundation of parts of Taramani and Velachery (divisions 153 and 154). He said the Rs. 3-crore project could be funded partially using the constituency development funds of Mr. Baalu and Mr. Raja.
If work was to start immediately hopefully the area can get some respite from the annual flooding, during the monsoon this year. this has been the perennial woe of the residents of Velachery, and finally the government seems to be acting, maybe with an eye on the local body elections which are slated for September this year.
It is a good news for the residents of Velachery, including me
But the works havent started yet.. it should be completed before this october or this year also we have to suffer in rains!!
