Gone in 600 seconds

Yeah that’s right! It took exactly 600 seconds to get to Central Station from my house which is in Mylapore yesterday (Sunday) night at around 10.30pm. Infact I was back at home within 22 minutes after dropping off my cousin. All this made me wonder as to how bad the traffic has become in the city during the weekdays. I work in Royapettah and one of my clients is Parry’s which is opposite the High Court, almost the same distance as the above. And it takes a good 40-45 minutes during the day. The traffic moves slower than a tortoise. The horns blowing, the noise levels just unbearable, and before you realise, there is a gentle touch by an auto-rickshaw driver, scratching your bumper.

Having been used to the mad rush, yesterday’s drive was a breeze. I never even changed from 4th gear. No, I did actually once near the Central Jail. The roads were good, extremely well-lit and the journey much more exciting. It felt like I was driving on ECR.

I just hope the Government does something to make driving a pleasure. May be have all the roads as one-way like a lot of other cities the world over.

Vinod, Good to hear that but I always thought that the (bad?) traffic was always an essence of chennai city. ‘ve found it always hard to drive through to my office everyday around 9 in the morning but really do not crib about it. It’s only in the evenings I get wild but at times feel the traffic scene to be an essence of the chennai city :o)

    vinod,

u havent mentioned if u drive a car or bike. from parrys to abhirampuram usually takes me 10 minutes on a bike, which is pretty normal. on sundays since i cant zoom on beach road (weekend beach goers), especially in the evening it takes me slightly longer. traffic in chennai isnt bad as long as u know how to navigate it. if u don ur stuck :)
