Did you know of this Madras College?
The above is a picture of the pipe band of Madras College.
Madras College is a school situated in St. Andrews, Scotland. The founder of this school, Rev. Dr. Andrew Bell came to India as a clergy man for the East India Company. While teaching the children of slain soldiers, he faced acute shortage of teachers. So he used the senior students to teach the younger students. These senior students were called monitors (now you know where the term came from).
This system of education was called Madras Education system and Dr. Bell made it popular across UK. He founded the Madras Academy (now named Bell Baxtar High School in Cupar) and the Madras college in St. Andrews, Scotland.

Me thinks your team is over updating this blog. Information is good but if i miss it for two days i must read 20 pages which is bad.
i feel you must limit your site to 4 posts per day.
You may feel i am hitting your enthu but flooding information is sometimes painful to read also.
Thanks for listening to me,
Ram.
Ram, thanks for your comments. We are trying out a few things, will stabilise soon.
Ram,
I know what you mean. As both an author on the blog, and as a reader, I see so many posts and so much information. In a way, I do agree that too many posts in a day is difficult to keep track of. But with a RSS reader, I am able to manage well.
But it is cool too, in a way. So many posts only mean that there is something worthwhile talking about, about Madras.

Really enjoyed reading about this school. Thanks Chenthil!
Fantastic article. I will spread the word about this blog.
Lavanya, David – thanks. Scotland has lots of connection with Madras. All the early British personnel in Madras were Scotsmen.
Ashwin – do spread the good word.
