Link’s – Quick Bites & Ice Golas

Now, this is not another one from Mint Street. There is more to great food in Chennai than Mint Street and this little joint off Poonamalle High Road, opposite Dharmaprakash Kalyana Mandapam is definitely worth a mention. He is probably one of the very few guys who will give you an authentic Ice Gola. Comes in different flavours, the pick is the one with the Milkmaid. Leave Kwality Walls, Baskin Robbins, Movenpick for a moment. Come and check out the finely crushed iced topped with generous doses of the flavours and milkmaid and nuts and I swear you will forever come back for more. But more than the Golas, this guy rocks for his sandwiches, chat and Amul Pizzas. We’ll take one at a time. Ordered for a Bhel Puri. Reminded me of the original good, spicy, tasty Gangothri Bhel Puri which you used to get 10 years ago. The chutneys were perfect, only thing was he had added some groundnuts to it, which I thought could be avoided. But his trademark is the sandwiches. And the most popular, the Murukku Sandwich.

We have all heard of the Cheese Sandwich, the Vegetable Sandwich, the Masala Toast, but what on earth is the Murukku Sandwich (namma ooru murukku, not a hindi word if u were wondering). To put it simply, you have these small murukkus which are about 2 cms in diameter, nicely laid out on a paper plate, in comes the potato, cucumber, onion, tomato and the cutneys. And another Murukku comes on top. You can opt for the cheese version also. And let me tell you, it was bloody good. I headed to the Bhujiya Cheese next. This was plain, not toasted or grilled, but the bhujiya and cheese when sandwiched between the breads is a delectable one. Their Amul Pizzas are also really good. Not like your Pizza Huts of the world, but these taste really nice, may be because Amul Cheese according to me beats the others hands down and tastes utterly delicious. I always wind up there with my all-time favourite, Chilli-Cheese toast. Here, unlike Shree Mithai, you don’t need to go searching for the Chillies. To round it off, great place, for a quick bite and reasonably priced. Check it out, if you happen to be passing by. The best time to go is past 6pm.
