IT Corridor, Chennai
IT Corridor at Chennai is taking shape slowly and steadily. The stretch from Madhya Kailash to SRP Tools is almost complete. Traffic moves fast in the IT corridor either to stagnate at the Adyar end or near the Thiruvanmiyur Railway Station end. Traffic was light this morning being a Sunday. Here are some images of the IT corridor shot today
A Colourful structure which also has a fountain. Around this structure good landscape work is taking place.
The foot overbridge is a great facility for those working in TIDEL Park and Elnet Software Park. Why the authorities have not thought of extending the foot overbridge to the inside of MRTS Railway Station, Thiruvanmiyur. Another foot overbridge is coming up near Kasturba Nagar Railway Station.
Statues of a boy and girl with a dove in their hands. Whether these statues will remain there permanently is not known.
A View of the IT Corridor from the foot overbridge. On the right side you see the new building complex of STPI and next to STPI is the NIFT.
Another view of the IT Corridor from the foot overbridge.
Greenery around the fountain opposite the MRTS Railway Station.
Zen and the Cyclist in triples in the IT Corridor.
now if only we could have this expressway meet anna salai… kotturpuram is a reall pain to drive through
Nice photos and it looks awesome..
By the way how is the progress of IT corridor.. Is it passed perungudi…
this road is going to be a remarkable place in chennai
The roads have been laid upto DB Jain college junction, two lanes with three tracks each. The lamp posts are planted at an equal pace too. Only the lighting takes a bit longer.
The row of lights in the night looks splendid.
Now, I take just 10 minutes from my home in okkiyampet to Madhya Kailash by bike.
And GVB, those photoes are really awesome !
Gud job guys.. OMR IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN SETHUSAMUDARAM..
PLS FOCUS ON DEVELOPMENT.. RATHER THAN POLITICS..
WISH THE PROOJECT MEETS THE DEADLINE.. ATLEAST THIS TIME WITH SHIPPING – IT CENTRAL MINISTER’Z..
A cpl of questions….does any one know the answers…
What is the new Dead line for the completion?
Is Siruseri the end of the IT corridor?
Do they have seperate lanes for Two Wheelers and Four Wheelers.
I remember reading they have sperate lanes planned for Cycle. Is that true?
Have they planned for proper Rain water drainage? Or is this Road also going to be flooded when it rains.?
These pictures are very nice and Chennai is inching (albeit very very slowly) towards being a truly international city. Sometimes I wonder whether this type of growth comes at the expense of rural folks who haven’t see any significant changes in their lives?

Good photos. Let’s hope that the roads and the surroundings will be maintained well. The lamps are great and stylish. Now, how about replicating this in other parts of Chennai!!!
I hope most of you would have already seen this website. Anyway for those didn’t get a chance –

This answers most of just_curious’s questions. But will they fulfil all that they promise ? Only God knows !
Are they gonna have this kind of landscaping through the length of the IT corridor? That’ll be awesome. This will then be the only road in Chennai with such greenery. Or, is it just in the Taramani area?
I wish more trees and shrubs are planted in all arterial roads of Chennai.
Hi,
Nice photos. Good to see that 6 lane is progressing fast. Now its the turn of respected public to follow traffic rules and signs. What is the use if we are not obeying traffic rules.
I hope every one will realize this and it involves some amount of self awareness.
I’m waiting to see this complete. When I travelled in this road last year before I left to US, lot of work was happening along the road. I’m very glad to see the road finally taking shape. Everything lies in maintenance. Hope these guys will maintain it to look the same.
The photos showing the development of Chennai IT corridor are good. Equally interesting are the aspirations on fast development, maintenance of the expressway or the six-laned road, greenery and the well developed landscape etc. A couple of bloggers rightly pointed out the need for more development than politics as IT field is a high-end tech field. Political dilly-dallying and unimaginative policies and announcements by petty political leaders cause flight of capital from TN and would harm IT development.
Major IT cos some time ago thought of moving or some in fact moved some of their facilities out of Electronic City and Koramangala in Bangalore due to political reasons. More or less a similar situation prevailed in Hitec-City in Hyderabad with some leading IT cos moving out their facilities to other places like Pune etc.
If IT sector is insulted from the negative influences of politics and leaders, it would perhaps develop fast providing enhanced livelihood avenues for the upwardly mobile youths. It is for the educated youth to engineer that kind of growth, uninfluenced by political parties and leaders.
Infrastructure, particularly good road connectivity and power supply, and an educated and proactive govt would go a long way in the development of IT corridors, I feel.
Has anyone seen the state of the IT highway beyond the Thoraipakkam Pallavaram road junction?
My sincere advice to people going south beyond this intersection is to keep their eyes and ears wide open as the OMR is in a real bad state with the work going on in a disorganised manner and now with the north east monsoon creeping in its real hell for anyone traversing it especially during office opening and closing times.
Another big menace is the indisciplined and rash driving by call taxies ,buses and other transport belonging to IT companies.Quite a few accidents have already taken place due to the rash driving of these IT transportsand its high time that the Chennai city police opened their eyes and enforced discipline to these offenders before many road users are maimed or killed
