Mylapore Festival – 2008
Mylapore Festival, an annual event in Chennai in the month of January is sponsored by Sundaram Finance and organised by Mr Vincent D’Souza of Mylapore Times. This year the festival was celebrated from January 3rd to 6th, 2008
The 4 day festival consisted of concerts in Parks at Mylapore, Folk Dance, Kolam Contest, heritage walks, Kokkalikattai Aattam and so on. The Kolam Contest and Kokkalikattai Aattam by a troupe from Wallajah took place on January 5th and 6th, 2008. I present some images taken on the concluding day.
Unlike the previous years, a few men participated in the Kolam contest this year.
I could see a number of foreign tourists watching with interest the Kolam contest.

Triplicane Festival kicks mylapore’s butt!!! Triplicane the Best….
Note – Since we thrive on our differences, what’s one more in that long list…..
For picky readers, Fun intended.
very nice pictures… such events are kinda refresshing for the minds of mecho-robo chennai metro life…
Nice visual treat … the silhoutte was very apt conclusion ….
nice pictures…..brings back to mind those days when my sister and myself use to get up very early during december (ofcourse after careful selection and planning the previous evening!) and put colorful kolams and decorate it with flowers…..also all the neighbouring ladies keeping eye over each otherĀ“s kolams for it was always a pride to have the best one drawn infront of your own house…..it was also fun to see the all the people passing over making all the efforts not to disturb or destroy…..
traditional stuffs could also be fun…..but there seems to be not much color maavu used neither do i see much kambi kolams……was it a rule in the festival not to use colors?
GVB, nice pictures, keep them coming. It is good to see these neighbourhood festivals (Mylapore and Triplicane) being held regularly. BTW, this festival has a website: http://www.mylaporefestival.com/
